What is the Integumentary System?
The Integumentary System is the largest system in the human body. It is the outer layer of the body and consists of the skin, hair, nails, and glands. This system is characterized as being the first line of defense against bacteria and viruses. It helps to regulate your body’s temperature and to protect you from injuries and sunlight, UV rays for example.
The integumentary system works with other systems in your body to keep it in balance. It helps with bone health because it absorbs Vitamin D, and helps the respiratory system thanks to the tiny hairs we have on the skin to filter dust and other bacteria.
